Nuestra Señora del Pilar Square

Plaza del Pilar is popularly recognized as “the hall of the city” and is located a few minutes’ walk from our hotel. Here, you can enjoy an enchanting atmosphere as you immerse yourself in the rich history and architectural beauty that surrounds it.

The main attraction of the square is the imposing Cathedral Basilica of Nuestra Señora la Virgen del Pilar, which stands out as the most emblematic symbol of the city. Next to this architectural jewel, you will find other buildings that further beautify the Plaza de las Catedrales, such as the Cathedral of the Savior, known as La Seo, the Lonja de Mercaderes, the Saragossa City Council and the church of San Juan de los Panetes.

As you explore the square, you will be surprised to find the sculptural monument of Francisco de Goya and Lucientes at one end, and the Fountain of Hispanidad at the other. The latter is accompanied by three marble blocks that represent the three caravels of Christopher Columbus, evoking the discovery of America. From a panoramic view, you can admire the map of Latin America.

Plaza del Pilar is also a witness to the rich Roman history of the ancient city of Caesaraugusta. Here, important vestiges are preserved such as the Forum, the River Port, the Baths and a majestic Theatre, with an impressive capacity of more than 6,000 people. We recommend that you do not miss the opportunity to visit the museum archaeological spaces, where you can immerse yourself in the Roman era and explore its fascinating ruins.
