Where can you have freshly made toast with homemade jam for breakfast in the heart of Saragossa? Can you imagine trying unique recipes that you won’t be able to find anywhere else? What do you think about taking them home or giving a unique product? Would you like to try some jams made in our kitchens, with seasonal fruit and 100% natural ingredients?

Well, all that is now possible. The new jams from Hotel Sauce are here. Made with all the love, the best ingredients and inspired by family.

Rubí Yé-Yé, since the 60s with Grapefruit, Lemon and Ginger

Straight from the 60s comes a sparkling, vital and fun recipe for Grapefruit, Lemon and Ginger to Mi MERMELADA favorita. A super citrus jam that combines aromatic Ruby Red grapefruit with lemon and ginger.

A tribute to all those Yeye girls who in the 60s and 70s left their towns and homes seeking independence, respect and freedom.

Orange rides again. Extra Sweet Orange and Vermouth Jam

The new jam from Mi MERMELADA favorita is now in town. The most genuine flavor inspired by a legendary character. A movie jam with the epic of the western and a surprising recipe.

Vermouth before eating or Western movies on Sundays are family memories. The aperitif and the nap with a movie in the background. Bringing the family together with any excuse was always a joy for him. Fun moments where you can also tell anecdotes.

Like many other boys of his generation, “Naranjado” also rode and always made us laugh by telling us the story of that horse that he got on without a saddle, and at a gallop, and that he couldn’t stop until they started to go up a hill. hill.

LAMINERA: Our most Aragonese and sweetest jam, like the peaches of Aragon.

The word laminera is used in Aragon as a synonym for sweet tooth. So if you are a laminero it is because you like to eat cakes, pastries and sweets in general.

Grandma Carmen is a great cook. She organizes phenomenal feasts where the food never ends; There is always one more dish and there is always a dessert. Or two. Or three And of course pasta with coffee.
One Christmas Carmen bought a fruit cake so big that it didn’t fit in the refrigerator and had to be left on the terrace all night.

LAMINERA is our tribute to the love and cooking of Carmen and all the laminera grandmothers in the world.

POMONA: our wildest and most personal jam, combines reineta apples from Aragon with the wonderful color and aroma of blackberries

Pomona in Roman mythology is the goddess of fruit trees, gardens and orchards.
From a very young age, Elena has a predilection for rural and country environments, forests, orchards, and roads.

Scotland, a hamlet in Vizcaya, the mountains of Madrid or a small Asturian village are the dream scenarios of her life, where she walks with her dog Churra de ella and eats the fruit from the trees.

POMONA is our tribute to Elena, wild, brave and beautiful.

Spice Tom: Tomato and Chile Jam

In 2016 David Bowie passed away and like many people, we spent weeks listening to his songs.

Space Oddity became Luis’s favorite and he asked for it again and again. With this song the games of astronauts in cardboard spaceships began.
Eugenia also got on the ship and from space we communicated with SPICE TOM.

Gran Tatita: Clementine and Clove Jam

In the morning we get up and the first thing Eugenia does is prepare breakfast for the animals.
One day she decided that we had to make a jam for these happy and crowded gatherings and be able to share it with all of her friends.

With details like this we are discovering that our Tatita is actually GREAT TATITA.

Cuban: Lemon Jam and Cane Rum

For more than 30 years José Luis traveled to Cuba for work.

When we were little we waited nervously and impatiently for him to return from his trips. He would come home and always the same ritual; He came through the door tired, we pounced on him and followed him to his room. There he would open his suitcases and among the summer shirts and bottles of rum there would always be a CUBAN gift for us.

A Lady: Strawberry, Raspberry and Bourbon Vanilla Jam

She is Grandma Eugenia’s jam. She was an exceptional person who overcame many difficulties in life, but always with a contagious smile and a kind character.

She always said that she would have liked to have studied and been a teacher, so we were inspired by the character of Jean Austen for her name. A writer who had to overcome the inconveniences of being a woman writer in her time and who defended a liberal education for women in her novels:
In 1810 she presented her novel Sense and Sensibility with this single notation about her authorship: “By a Lady.”

The jams from Mi HABITACIÓN favorita in Heraldo de Aragón

The jams from Mi HABITACIÓN favorita are causing a lot of talk. Last Saturday the supplement of Heraldo de Aragón Estilos de Vida dedicated a small article to us in which they talked about our jams. Of those original British-inspired recipes, of the story behind each specialty, of the careful design of the labels and also of the quality of the ingredients and the care in home-made preparation.

We are very excited to appear in this medium and we want to share with you what they say about our jams.

Mi HABITACIÓN favorita, the cafeteria at the Sauce de Saragossa hotel (Espoz y Mina 33), adds new flavors to its offering of artisan sweets created by expert pastry chef Laura de la Rúa. She does it with Mi MERMELADA favorita, a collection of completely artisanal jams that are cooked in the hotel itself following the British tradition, one of the most recognized in the world. This is the “open cauldron”, which cooks the fruit without covering so that it evaporates, controlling the temperature at all times and packaging it hot.

Beyond the recipe, in Mi MERMELADA favorita the design matters and is inspired by family history, as is the Hotel Sauce itself. Each flavor, achieved with seasonal and undamaged fruit, revolves around a family member: Parents, children, siblings… each one with their own history and personality. All of them are illustrated by Elena de la Rúa based on portraits from the family album.

The first flavor, that of strawberries, raspberries and bourbon vanilla, was A Lady, a tribute to grandmother De la Rúa, whom her granddaughter has turned into a kind of Jean Austen, a pioneer and enlightened woman, like the Laura’s grandmother wanted to be. There is also Cubano, in which its mixture of lemon and rum is reminiscent of Laura’s father, who worked for years on the Caribbean island. There are four other flavors: Tomato and chili (Sipce Tom by Laura’s son), Laminera (The most Aragonese, with D.O. peaches and currant, a tribute to Laura’s mother-in-law, Pomona (apple and blackberry with the drawing of the sister and illustrator) and Gran Tatita, which with mandarin oranges and cloves represents Eugenia, the little one of the house. The jams can be found in the cafeteria and online at www.mimermeladafavorita.com) and are served at the hotel’s breakfasts and snacks.

International award for our jams

This March the prestigious World’s Original Marmalade Awards were held in Dalemain in Cumbria, England. A charity event in an impressive setting in which artisan jams from all over the world participate.

And we can proudly tell you that two of our homemade jams have been awarded at the event. The Gran Tatita jam, made from organic clementines and cloves, received the bronze medal. And the Cuban jam, with lemon and cane rum, has been awarded the gold medal. A spectacular result due to the importance of the contest, the history of the place where it is held and the quality of the participants.

Aragonese flavor in English toast Heraldo de Aragón

This Saturday we were able to read in Heraldo de Aragón, the main newspaper of the city and dean of the community, a news story by Ana Usieto about the international awards that our jams have received.

Two of our specialties that you can taste at the Hotel Sauce breakfast or buy to take away or as a gift were awarded at The World’s Original Marmalade Awards. Below, you can read what the prestigious media says about it.

Five o’clock tea (there afternoon tea), which survives in the DNA of British traditions, is more than just tea. For this ritual snack to be canonical, the hot drink must be accompanied by pasta, rolls called “scones”, cucumber “sandwiches”, butter and, of course, jam, whose recipe does not correspond to the Spanish concept. In the United Kingdom, marmalade, which cannot be missing from a good English breakfast, refers to the preserve made with the peel and juice of a citrus fruit, which can be processed in different ways or combined with other fruits, spices or alcohol, but it must always contain the skin.

One of the temples of this type of jams is Fortnum & Mason’s, the exquisite London store that has the honor of supplying the British Royal Family. There Laura de la Rúa discovered an advertisement that seemed to have been designed for her: that of The World’s Original Marmalade contest, the most important in the world when it comes to citrus jams. De la Rúa decided to present herself with Mi MERMELADA favorita, the brand of her creation that, for a few months now, has been part of the breakfast offering at the Hotel Sauce in Saragossa, where it is also sold (also online). The Aragonese maraca is one of the few in Spain that meets one of the requirements of the British competition: being cooked with the centuries-old open cauldron technique. Said and done, Laura traveled with her family to Dalemain, where a festival is also held around these preserves. The World’s Original Marmalade Festival started in 2005, and in these 13 years its success has led it to have two new branches, in Japan and Australia. Its founder, Jane Hassell-McCosh, is passionate about this sweet and faithful custodian of the Dalemain recipe collection.

5,000 jars of jam were entered into this year’s contest, coming from all over the world, both amateur and professional artisans. In this last category, Mi MERMELADA favorita won two awards. Her CUBANO recipe, which mixes lemon and rum, won a Gold Medal in the “Citrus with alcohol” specialty. GRAN TATITA, for its part, with clementines and cloves, took a bronze in “Citrus fruits with interesting additions.”

This important recognition from the world’s leading jam experts has had an impact and has opened four new points of sale for the Aragonese brand in Madrid. But, above all, says Laura de la Rúa: “It gives us the certainty that we are doing it right.” Five o’clock tea (there afternoon tea), which survives in the DNA of British traditions, is more than just tea.
