Saragossa Museum

The Saragossa Museum is one of the oldest museums in Spain. It was founded in 1836 and is located in the old Convent of San Francisco, in the historic center of Saragossa. Its location in a historic building adds additional architectural and cultural value.

The museum houses a wide variety of collections ranging from prehistory to the present day. Among the areas represented are archaeology, history, painting, sculpture and decorative arts. This allows visitors to explore different eras and artistic styles in one place.

The Saragossa Museum has outstanding archaeological collections, with pieces dating from prehistory to Roman and medieval times. Additionally, its Fine Arts collection includes works ranging from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, representing various artistic movements and artists.

The museum pays tribute to artists and creators from the Aragon region, highlighting their contribution to the art world throughout history. Among these artists are Francisco de Goya, who is one of the most influential painters in Spain and originally from Aragon.

The Saragossa Museum is dedicated not only to exhibiting art, but also to the restoration and conservation of the pieces. Restoration processes are often visible to visitors, providing a unique perspective on the efforts behind cultural heritage preservation.
