The “Saragossa near you” photography contest has been our particular way of promoting the image of Saragossa and sharing with you one of our greatest hobbies, photography.

Throughout these years we have had the opportunity to see spectacular, original and beautiful visions of our city. And of course, we have made a good handful of friends with two passions in common, photography and the city of Saragossa.
Every year the quality of the photos presented is surpassed, and although it may seem impossible, you manage to surprise us with new points of view on the most beautiful corners of the city.

In each edition, the finalists reflect the enormous diversity of our city. The infinity of possible views on an always beautiful and always changing Saragossa. We have seen fairy tale sunsets, the sinister face of the city, dreamy mists, surreal compositions, the playful side of the offering to the Virgin, unreal images, futuristic structures, classy Saragossaans, supermoons, color in motion, urban art or corners enigmatic Everything fits and is beautiful in this city that we love.

Each year, choosing the winners has been complicated, but we have tried to reward an original theme, a story behind the photo, a corner well known to Saragossa residents that moves away from the cliché.

Winner of the photography contest: Saragossa close to you VIII

We already have a winner! This year’s edition of the Saragossa Photography Contest near you is coming to an end. Choosing the winner has been complicated, like every year, but we think that the winning photo has characteristics that make it unique. An original theme, a story behind the photo, a corner well known to Saragossa residents that moves away from the cliché… in short, a great photo that we hope you like. We present to you Night at the Café by Susana Carreras Montoto. But first, a few words from our professional jury:

The photograph shows us elements that we directly associate with the world of magic such as the book, the clothing of the female character, the art deco background. This image takes us to an imaginary and mysterious world in a well-known location in Saragossa.

The characters located in the lower quarter of the photo take center stage in the image: A small light to illuminate the book at night catches our gaze at the scene where some children attend, hypnotized, to the story of the book. The children’s motion blur also adds a ghostly glaze that helps intensify the fantastical effect of the photo.

The framing, the night shot and the choice of black and white are perfect to distance us from reality and make us enter the enigmatic essence of the photo.

We loved its originality and the creative contribution of the author to tell us about our city. !! Congratulations!!

Winner of the photography contest: Saragossa close to you VII

We already have a winner of the VII Saragossa photography contest near you. This is Whatever You Say by Daniel Romance. Each edition of the contest the level of the works presented increases and after seven editions and thousands of photos received, our participants are still capable of surprising us with new ideas, unlikely perspectives and forgotten corners of our city.

On this occasion, and in the words of our jury, the winning snapshot is “a captivating and mysterious photo. On Alfonso Street, a double portrait of great beauty fills with people, two contrasting half faces due to their attitudes and blond and dark hair that seem to allude to the double face of two theater profiles. In the center of the image, the empty, white street that takes you to Pilar and that marks the secret. A powerful image with multiple interpretations.”

We have already contacted Daniel Romance, our champion of this edition, who told us in a few lines how he took the photo, who the mysterious girls are, since when he takes these fantastic photos and his opinion about the contest.

This photograph is taken on Alfonso Street. Sofía, (the girl on the right) and Paula (the girl on the left) also have a lot of merit considering that the photo is from a cold morning (3 degrees) and that posing that way on a street with so many people It is not usual.

Paula, apart from being my friend, is the girl with whom I most often go out to take photos since, for me, when she poses she transmits something that I really like. Furthermore, Paula is much taller than Sofía and she had to be crouched a little…

That same day we met Sofía since we had been wanting to meet her for a long time because we knew that she loves the camera and is someone who tells stories with her eyes.

I have only been in the world of photography for a year, seeking to convey something in each photo.

I found this contest very exciting since this is the first contest I have participated in. Plus there were many incredible photographs.

Winner of the photography contest: Saragossa close to you VI

We already have a winner of the VI Saragossa photography contest near you! This is an original vision of La Aljafería entitled En Si Misma, by Antonio Clavel Lacabra. We are especially excited that it is the least known of the great monuments of Saragossa  that is reflected in the winning photograph, and that a historic member of our contest, participant in several editions, is the final winner.

The decision has been very complicated: there was exceptional quality in the works presented this year and several photos that would have deserved the award.

The jury describes the photograph to us with these words: This photograph from a bird’s-eye view is a secret look at the character’s contemplative moment in an evocative and nostalgic atmosphere.

Interview with Daniel Romance, winner of the Saucepolis photography contest: Saragossa close to you

A few days ago the awards ceremony for the latest edition of our annual photography contest took place. They have been exciting months in which we have discovered the talent that hides behind the participants’ objectives and we have enjoyed the magnificent works presented. Today we put the finishing touch to this edition with the now traditional interview with our champion.

It is always a pleasure to hear the opinion of our participants about the contest, photography or our city. On this occasion we chatted with the winner of the contest about all these things and discovered a restless boy, with artistic sensitivity and who promises to give a lot to talk about in the world of photography. We are pleased to introduce you to Daniel Romance, Winner of the VII edition of the Saragossa Photography Contest near you

How did you find out about our contest?

I met him thanks to Cipaj and thanks to a friend who also participated in the contest and who, in my opinion, has better photos than me.

Did you take the photo expressly to participate or did you already have it and decided to send it?

I had this photo from a while ago, on a portrait day. I sent more photos of the city that I took on one morning for this contest.

You told us that that morning you went out to take photos. Do you usually do that often?
Every free moment I have I try to go take photographs, whether of landscapes or portraits. I go out quite a few times with the brunette girl who appears on the left in the winning photograph to take photographs, portraits.

Since when have you been interested in photography?

Since a year ago.

How did your hobby for photography begin?

I have always belonged to the branch of art since I have been dancing for 10 years, I have always liked to express and after seeing some really inspiring photographs I wanted to try and time after time I saw that I could achieve more.

What branch of photography interests you the most?

I think portraits, because when you have the perfect model it is incredible what can be expressed. And also in portraits you can play with many things outside the perfect pose, such as clothes, the place where you photograph, objects that say something about the place that can look good in the background or in the hands of the model… There are a thousand and one ideas.

Which corners of Saragossa do you find most photogenic?

Very busy streets, with people and movement, whether central or not. Also nature areas such as parks.

What absurd object cannot be missing from your suitcase?

A flashlight.

After the success of Digas lo que Digas in Saragossa near you, have you thought about participating in more contests of this type?

Of course. This has been the beginning of a path.
