Goya Museum in Zaragoza

The indisputable most universal Aragonese, the unique genius and creator, an unrepeatable figure that rises only once in history, this is Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. Born in Fuendetodos, in the province of Zaragoza, Goya had a close relationship with the city where he left his mark that we can see today in XXI Century Zaragoza.

Now we can say that there is new museum all dedicated to this exceptional artist from Fuendetodos. In this exhibition space we can enjoy the original works of the painter, some unreleased to date in Zaragoza, and with special attention to the brilliant Goya early years . It is, after all, in the city of Zaragoza were the artist started his painting training. We can also find in this museum works from his contemporary artists, paintings from painters that influenced him and also paintings from later artists where we can see the unmistakable imprint of Goya.

The Ibercaja Goya Museum has also a strong didactic purpose and it has audiovisuals that explain the importance of the painter, his connection with Zaragoza and the magnitude of his work.

But we must highlight the outstanding Grabados de Goya. The Museo Goya of Zaragoza is the only museum in the world where you can enjoy the most complete collections of engravings of the artist : Copias de Velázquez, Caprichos, Desastres de la Guerra, Tauromaquia, Disparates y Toros de Burdeos. Without a doubt an enormous privilege just round the corner, next to Hotel Sauce in 23, Espoz y Mina Street.

The photo illustrating this post was taken by Alejandro Esteva Sierra with the title Goya Contemplando el Pilar. The photo participated in our annual photography contest Zaragoza Cerca de ti.
